The 3 days of excellent competition came to a triumphant end with; Aimee Ramm (Leicestershire), Claire Thorn (West Mids), Sarah White (Surrey) & Sally Blick (Sussex) smashing the 160 years+ 4 x 100m freestyle relay European record by 3 seconds.
Police Swimming Team Manager, Claire Thorn heard that the Inter Services; Army, Navy & RAF were having a race across the English Channel and thought; the police need to be a part of that.
In order to swim across the channel you need to book the services of a pilot who provides the boat and negotiates the complicated tides. Pilots are often booked 2 years in advance, however the police team were fortunate to secure the services of experienced pilot, Stuart Gleeson.
This year's British Long Course Championships took place down in Plymouth, a lovely part of the country but did impact on the number of PSUK swimmers able to take part. Although they only fielded a small team of 7 this was not reflected in the results.
Merseyside Police offered a very warm welcome to Liverpool for competitors in the 2018 PSUK Swimming & Water Polo Championships. The host force did a fantastic job providing accommodation at the infamous Adelphi hotel and creating a great friendly competitive atmosphere at the pool. Positive feedback has been received across the board.
